DGKK Seminar on Growth Kinetics and Layer Transfer of Ultra-Thin Layers and 2D Materials
November 23 – 24, 2026

The 2026 seminar will follow up on the successful 2025 workshop at IKZ in Berlin. A special focus will be placed on 2D layer growth by various methods as well as transfer processes for ultra-thin semiconductor, dielectric and metal films. We are aiming to bring together researchers from different communities to discuss emerging topics in these fields. Presentation of work in progress is welcome.
Topics include (but are not limited to):
• Synthesis of 2D and 3D materials, nucleation / growth processes, defects, instabilities
• Selective-area epitaxy
• Influence of adlayers on epitaxial (and non-epitaxial) crystal growth
• Formation of ultra-thin layers and nanostructures
• In-situ monitoring of substrate conditions and growth
• Layer transfer and defects in layer structures
• Device results with strong correlation to layer deposition and/or layer properties
• Particular demands of thin-film systems for Qubits, quantum emitters and detectors as well as memristive structures
• Atomistic simulations like DFT, molecular dynamics, kinetic Monte-Carlo
Workshop dates and location:
Nov 23 – Nov 24, 2026 (Monday / Tuesday) at Walter-Schottky-Haus (WSH) (4253), Doppelraum B 101, B 102 (4253|101), Sommerfeldstraße 18a, 52074 Aachen
The seminar will start on Monday around noon and will end on Tuesday about noon. A dinner on Monday evening will provide a good opportunity for networking and discussing future perspectives.
