Abstract:
The convergence of artificial intelligence and quantum technologies is driving demand for novel semiconductor devices that go beyond conventional CMOS scaling. This talk presents recent developments from Fraunhofer IPMS in advanced low-power embedded memories, with a focus on ferroelectric memories. Owing to their non-volatility, low switching energy, and multi-level capability, these devices are well suited for in-memory and neuromorphic computing, forming a key technological basis for energy-efficient edge AI in Physical AI applications. In a second part, scalable qubit technologies are addressed, including spin-based and superconducting qubits, fabricated on 300 mm wafers using semiconductor manufacturing processes - a key prerequisite for the realization of scaled quantum computers made in Germany.
Bio:
Prof. Dr. Weinreich received her diploma in Applied Natural Sciences from TU Bergakademie Freiberg in 2005 and joined the Center for Nanoelectronic Technologies (CNT) in 2006, where she conducted her doctoral research on novel high-k materials for buried-wordline DRAM technologies. She earned her doctorate from FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg. Since joining Fraunhofer IPMS in 2011, she has held several key leadership positions, initially focusing on the development of 300 mm wafer technologies and novel high-k materials. In 2016, she became head of the Energy Devices group, followed by her appointment as head of the IoT Components & Systems business unit in 2019. In 2020, she assumed leadership of the Center for Nanoelectronic Technologies, and in 2021, she was appointed Deputy Director of Fraunhofer IPMS. Since 2022, she has also headed the Center for Advanced CMOS and Heterointegration Saxony. In 2026, she was appointed Director of Fraunhofer IPMS.
