Rainer Waser has led the IWE2 (Materials for Electrical Engineering and Information Technology) at the RWTH Aachen University and the PGI-7
(Electronic Materials) at Forschungzentrum Jülich for the past decades and built the foundation with his pioneering research on memristive
phenomena, neuromorphic computing and the relation of functional oxides with their defect chemistry.
For 12 years Prof. Waser was the co-speaker of the DFG CRC917 ‘Nanoswitches’ as well as several further coordinated research programs.
His experience to work with and manage interdisciplinary research teams make him an expert to comment on the importance of diversity in
scientific groups. Prof. Waser will share some personal experiences and he will allow an insight into his approach to the management of large
research teams.
