Owing to the geographical distance of the involved sites, the full team of Active-3D comes together once per year for the Research Retreat Festival (RRF). These festivals are for members and associate members of the TRR404 only. They are designed to discuss the progress of the projects’ program critically as well as the next steps and challenges. All projects present their progress in a poster. Group discussions and all-hands meetings complete the 3-day event. We invite guests to present keynotes and to refresh external input. This also helps to critically review the projects' research paths.

In addition to the scientific program of the festival, there will be ‘retreat’ sessions to facilitate and enhance the communication and team spirit. All members are encouraged to participate in the annual Research Retreat Festival.

The 2026 RRF will take place in Eisenach (Thuringia) from 28-30 September 2026.
